Founded in 1985, New Shoots is a creative writing mentorship program that sends UBC grad students into Vancouver high schools. We’ve helped thousands of teens explore the craft, learn from an experienced writer, and even have the chance to get published.
Past mentors and young participants include such critically-acclaimed writers as Stephanie Bolster, Deborah Campbell, Kevin Chong, Wayde Compton, Dina Del Bucchia, Fiona Tinwei Lam, Evelyn Lau, Jen Sookfong Lee, Nancy Lee, and Michael V. Smith. Our goals are to nurture creativity and grow a supportive artistic community that welcomes all.
